I am Shazia Ali, a classroom and parent educator. During my seventeen years of journey into the field of education, I have felt a need for consistency in the ways parents and teachers discipline children at home and at school. I attended many workshops and trainings on behaior management. Those programs worked for a while, but they did not produce the results I was looking for. I then found "Positive Discipline by Jane Nelson", a program that helped me motivate my students to become positive, self-confident, and accepting members of our class community. However, these strategies were not implemented at home causing confusion in children's minds about what is the right way to act. I decided to get certified as a Positive Discipline Parent Educator so I can empower parents through tools and strategies that work. My goal is to help families build meaningful and respectful relationships with their children through implementation of Positive Discipline at home.
As a teacher the use of Positive Discipline tools and strategies in my class enabled me to empowered students and become self confident and compassionate members of our school community.
As a Parent Educator I was able to help parents see the impact of their parenting style on their children during the six weeks Parenting class at the San Jose Public Library- Alum Rock Branch.
